Hi, I'm Karen...
Here's a bit more about me...For over 20 years I worked as a primary school teacher in various schools in and around London, before embarking on a career as a celebrant when my son got married and asked me to officiate his ceremony (more on this below)! And since then I have never looked back.
Being a celebrant is an extremely rewarding experience, and I love creating individual, bespoke ceremonies using my creativity and vision to reflect the people I am working with. I am a perfectionist, and this is reflected in my attention to detail and passion to get it just right for you.
I just love being up there celebrating with and supporting people on their special occasions… but your ceremony is not about me, it’s all about you! And I hope to have the chance to work with you soon.
How it all began
My career change from teacher to celebrant began when my son got married and asked me to officiate his ceremony!...
I had been considering a career change for a while, but I just wasn’t sure what I could do to utilise all the skills I had gained as a teacher. Then my son announced he was getting married. We were all so excited and the planning began.
My daughter-in-law found an amazing venue in Outwood, Surrey, but they could not legally marry there. I was not sure how it would work, however my super organised daughter-in-law said that they would marry (legally) in a register office and then hold a ceremony at the venue for 90 guests.
She wanted a close friend of the family to officiate the ceremony, but none of us had a clue how to go about this. All we wanted was someone to write our ceremony – easier said than done! I was doing some research online when I happened upon a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Civil Celebrancy... so I signed up!
I had never imagined that this would eventually lead to me leaving my teaching role and starting my own business as a full-time celebrant, but as I learned more about the role of a celebrant, it very quickly became something that I was extremely interested in and wanted to pursue further... and I am so glad that I did.
Since I qualified I have been privileged to work with some amazing couples and families, writing a range of bespoke ceremonies for various occasions, including weddings, naming ceremonies and funerals. I am in my element, and so grateful that my son and daughter-in-law were instrumental in paving the way to this wonderful career.
